Something Terrible Happened to My Book

Thank you all for imagining the best. Unfortunately, the news regarding How to Lead a Life of Crime (which came out on 2/21) was not good.

Here's the scoop. Please spread the word.

As with all things related to How to Lead a Life of Crime, the website is intended for older teens and adults.

Is this a hoax, or is this REAL?

Oh it's very real, unfortunately.

Oh my gosh.

Why would someone do this? It's a BOOK. Not a top secret US army attack plan!

I'm buying the eBook edition, since I have a kindle, but still!

Why would someone want to take Legal Action (do you mean SUE you and prevent it from being published?) and then sabotage your book???!!!

This is insane.

Will it be possible for you to find the people that did this? Can you sue them?

We'll be right here backing you up.

I just wonder why anyone would do that. Unless you put something in the book that happens to be top secret government information. Like if there still is an academy like that. Hmm.

I hope this gets fixed soon! This is absolutely insane and sucks.

My condolences. It must be awful to have your creative work hijacked like this. :(

I normally wait until something comes out later in trade paperback so that it will fit on the shelf more easily along with all my other books. If it never comes out in trade paperback I tend to wait to pick it up at a used bookstore.

In this case I think that I will be purchasing a copy of the original release specifically because of the sabotage. When there is a corrected re-release I will then by another copy and keep them side by side.

Is there a preferred store that you would like us to purchase at, or is one store as good as any other for your purposes?

This sounds a lot like the stunt in which Justin Bieber had his computer 'stolen' for publicity...

Dear Anonymous: Believe what you want. But I would never allow a book I worked on for two years to be messed with. Not for any amount of publicity.

I'm sorry, I'm sure I would hate this if this was me. But you have to admit it's a little funny. Plus only a book as awesome as yours would be worth sabotaging. It's a compliment, really.

Justin Bieber needs as much publicity as he can get, otherwise he'd be trampled to the ground. (Sorry, JB fans!)

Kirsten is one of the nicest, kindest, best authors out there. Why would she sabotage her own book that she's put years of her life into?
It's not like this is being announced all over the news. In fact, only the blog readers really know about this.
And if anything, I would think LESS people would want to buy a compromises book.

SO sorry to hear about the unauthorized alteration of your book! It's horrible to have something dearly loved messed with. :( Especially for the sake of "political correctness" or "ideological sensitivity" or what other hoqwash they thought justified it.

I still look forward to reading it, though! :D And I'm glad your taking it so well!
