Manhattan's Secret Magic Library

CH Presents: The Conjuring Arts Research Center from Cool Hunting on Vimeo.

Hidden somewhere on the island of Manhattan is a library with over 12,000 books on the subject of magic. If you can find it, you're welcome to visit.

This is just the sort of place Ananka Fishbein would stumble across. Don't you think? On a personal note, I'd love to take a peek at the book Valuable Secrets. What kind of secrets, I wonder? And how valuable are they?

Wow. That's amazing. I'm also interested in the Valuable Secrets book. That library sounds like it has a book on anything related to magic and the paranormal. I'd love to know where it is.

On another topic, While I was reading about the history of my school in the library, I found out that my school has tunnels running underneath it that connect to the university campus nearby. They were used during the cold war for civil defense. I think that that's pretty cool.

Library, I'm coming to find you some time in October. Right after the breast cancer walk.

Undercover Samurai! Our school has that too! It runs to the Junior College next door. Unfortunately the tunnels are filled with asbestos though, so we can't go through them. But there is also a bomb shelter and lots of exciting old stuff. Old schools are AWESOME!

That is so amazing! Have you found it? When I live in New York I am going to devote my life (well at least part of it) looking for it. Imagine what you would find! Thanks!

There's at least one college here where the "steam tunnels" are off limits. They're conduits for lots of live steam, hot and cold running water, power cables, vacuum hoses, etc. And yeah, there's leaky asbestos flange packing all over. However, the REAL reason they're off limits: The machine shops are down there! I can get into a LOT of trouble with a lathe and a drill press.

They SAY they're at 11 W. 30th Street, 5f.

If I were a pro or even an amateur magician and librarian with a collection of rare and valuable books, I'd probably start my security plan with misdirection and fib about where it is. Then I'd make sure that, if it was underground, there'd be a great drain system so it wouldn't flood. I know of a library where the "Special Collections" were in the basement -- until the night the building flooded. Now it's on the 8th floor.
