Merry Christmas (Eve) Everyone!

I'm taking a little break over the holidays to practice my sword-fighting skills, perfect the fine art of Swedish cooking, and work on my next book. (Someday, maybe you'll thank me!)

I wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year. I'll return on January 2 with more weird facts to blow your minds.

You'll . . .

Take a tour of a town filled with art forgers.
Meet the blue people of Troublesome Creek.
Learn how to build your own tropical island.
Find out about tattoos that change with your mood.
Discover the treasure hidden deep beneath Manhattan's skyscrapers.

See you in 2008!

Can't wait for your next Kiki book...

AHH can't wait!
Also for your next book...won't you be nice and give us a hint as to what it's about? :D

I'll be bored and have nothing to do at home :(

I loved the Christmas present ideas below, especially the possessed books and wrapping paper.

I'm trying to build an alarm that buzzes every time someone turns my doorknob or a REALLY REALLY REALLY simple pass code type thing but I'm having a bit of trouble :P Where is Luz when you need her??!

PS: I'm dedicating my anti 'I HEART NY' shirt icon to you! :D

Can't wait to read future stories of weird things, and with luck I'll find one or two to suggest to you. Did you know someone cloned kittens that glow under blackligt? Now if they could just make them all the way glow-in-the-dark we'd never step on our cats in a dark basement. (which I have done but don't worry, she wasn't hurt.) I'll dig up the link later.

Merry Christmas Ananka and y'all!

the reason i'm asking is because my dad was friends with a girl named Kirsten MIller she was in his graduating class.

JinAi: Love the icon. Delightfully misanthropic. As for the alarm, go to the nearest hardware store and ask for a magnetic door contact (with sensor and alarm). These are usually pretty cheap, and they can alert you every time your door opens even a crack!

Kirsten: Hope you survived the lutefisk. I've never had the pleasure, but I've heard it's pretty foul.

Ookamishinzui: I collect strange facts, and I keep a running list of stuff I want to write about. Every time I come across something interesting, I bookmark it for later. You wouldn't believe my bookmarks list.

Ve: I'm not sure when book 2 will be in Brazil. But I'll check and get back to you! And thanks for visiting the blog. I'm a huge fan of the southern hemisphere.

Anonymous #1: Glad you like the t-shirt!

MK: Nice try, but KM grew up in the great state of North Carolina.

Today(the 27th of December) one year ago was the day Ananka posted something for the first time in months!(If you are confused just look at the post for the 27th of December 2006)I remember that day, I freaked out when I saw the post! =) It's kind of random that I remembered that, but hey it's cool.

Ananka have you heard about the tunnels possibly below Tokyo?

Kad said...

Hey Ananka,
I have a few questions.

Have you heard about there possibly being tunnels under Tokyo?
If not go to this site:

http://search.japantimes.co.jp/member/member.html?fl20030301a1.htm

This site is also real cool where you can create your paintings:

http://artpad.art.com/artpad/painter/

Also i was wondering if you were going to create any other stuff besides T-shirts? I thought maybe it would be cool if you did some other stuff too, things like maybe Backpacks, watches, jewlery, Jackets, Hoodies, Journals, An Irregular outfit.

~Kad

ananka said...

Hi Kad: First of all, welcome! Second . . . I am very impressed. There aren't that many people who've heard about the Tokyo tunnels. More via email!

Hazel said...

WE WILL HAVE INTERNET ACCESS! Hooray, I can keep reading Ananka's Diary!

Aww! I will miss all the delightfully random postings. (But I was in NYC today, so that was cool.)

Did you see the article about the rats in the NY Times? Even my parents [and my mom, who hates rats] found it interesting! It was pretty funny reading about the cat who had her kittens in the hood of a car...

Jin Ai said...

By the way: thanks for the tip, Ananka-but I'm trying to build something similar myself, although taking one apart might help me figure out how it works, which I've been trying to find out with no success :P
Also, if the first book was about Kiki and the second about Oona, can you tell us who the third book will be about, if anyone? *puppy eyes*

I am very interested in strange but true facts. I found a site that has all sorts of strange facts and here are a few of them:

Over 10,000 birds a year die from smashing into windows!

The average person has over 1,460 dreams a year!

The electric chair was invented by a dentist!

Over 2500 left handed people a year are killed from using products made for right handed people!

Most lipstick contains fish scales!

Tourists visiting Iceland should know that tipping at a restaurant is considered an insult!

In Tokyo, they sell toupees for dogs!

Chewing gum while peeling onions will keep you from crying!

Here are some Laws that might be true and might not be true:

Alaska law says that you can't look at a moose from an airplane.

In Kentucky, it's the law that a person must take a bath once a year.

In Utah, birds have the right of way on any public highway.

In New Jersey, cabbage can't be sold on Sunday.

Hope you find these interesting.

Jin Ai said...

Agh, I keep remembering things I want to say at the last minute! I was looking through your old blogs to see what I'd missed before I started checking them regularly :( One that interested me was the story about the girl who was found sleeping on a ledge in Brooklyn in a wedding dress. I checked the article, and it said that they found out who she was-unfortunately, it was not quite as interesting as I had hoped; it turns out she was about to be married to a guy who dumped her because she was bipolar and wouldn't take her medication! There's a link to the other story on the original news page.

Kad said...

I must be off to watch the 1985 version of Alice in Wonderland. It is like 3 hours long but it is really good.I love the Alice in Wonderland book too. Maybe because everything is strange in Wonderland.

Hazel & Nellie: I'm so glad to hear you'll have Internet access! Are you moving somewhere interesting? Amazon rainforest? The Dead Sea? Detroit?

Kitty: Very cool, indeed. But it makes me sad to think it will all melt away one day!

Ariana: Thanks for sticking around so long!

******: You continue to amuse me. But for some reason I still can't see your profile on that site! Maybe I have to join?

Kad: Wow, great facts. I might just pop on over to New Jersey, buy some cabbage and make a citizens arrest or two!

JinAi: You know there are instructions online for making that sort of stuff. Or are you set on inventing something new? As for Book 3, it's about Betty. But don't worry, Luz will be next. She's one of my all-time favorite characters, too.

And the girl in the bridal gown. Yeah, tragic, huh? I was hoping the story would have an amusing ending. Too bad. I hope she's OK.

******* said...

Hmmm...
You should be able to see my profile without joining, but it's really not all that interesting.

I can't wait to read Book 3! Gotta see what happens with Betty and Kaspar.

dangerous said...

ooooooo! about betty huh? VERY cool I will undoubtedly get that book the day it comes out.

Kad said...

The 3rd book is about Betty!!!!!!!!
YAY YAY YAY YAY YAY YAY YAY! I love Betty she is one of my fave Irregulars. Betty is so awesome. So Ananka, you said the next book is about Betty and the one after that is about Luz so then the last one will be about Deedee right? Are you going to end the books after you have done every girl? If you are that makes me so sad.
Cant wait till the book comes out!

~Kad

International Mastermind said...

Ah-you have forgotten Iris and Kaspar, Kad!

Jin Ai said...

Thanks for telling us! I can't wait to learn more about Betty-she's one of my favorites.
I forgot to tell you that Kiki Strike is the first and only book I've read so far that I can read more than once within the same week without getting bored of! [oops, awkward sentence...did that make sense? Lol.]
What made me really crack up was the disclaimer in the front saying that the advice, including the first aid advice, shouldn't be taken seriously and that you aren't to blame for any injuries. rofl!!

There's a new movie out about a boy who makes friends with the Loch Ness Monster, I think. It's rated PG for, among other things, brief smoking.
There's a movie I saw at the library that got its rating for "teen partying." Isn't that weird?

ananka said...

JinAi: Yeah, the disclaimer was a nice touch, eh?

Raph: My head is spinning. Somewhere, in a parallel universe, I'm on yacht sipping (non-alcoholic) pina coladas, counting my enormous fortune, and finalizing my plans to take over the world. I think I'll have to post about that.

GW007: Oh dear. That sounds rather terrible. (The dentist visit, I mean.) Good luck! BTW, I heard that the movie was pretty gruesome.

Hazel: Wow--just for brief smoking? I wonder why they didn't just take it out of the film. And I certainly wouldn't want to see any teen partying--the HORROR!

Nellie: How cool! You'll be able to read the next Kiki Strike in German.

I had trouble with my resolution this year at first it was to not have 1, but that gave me a headache. Then to be random.(did any1 ever notice certain newspapers smell like pickles), but that didn't work because i always break my resolutions and i want to keep that, so I finally told my friens I wasn't going to drink water all year.(as soon as I said it I took a big gulp of water)now I don't have toworry till next year,I alreasy broke my resolution.

One more question, have you ever seen either Stargate SG-1 or Stargtae Atlantis? Thanks!

ananka said...

Soccergal: Probably a good thing that you broke that water resolution.

Elizabeth: It's a little too soon to say when the next book will be coming out, but you'll know as soon as I do! And the first book was really about Ananka. As for Iris, I think she deserves one, don't you?

And I cant say I've ever seen much of Stargate SG or Stargate Atlantis. Are you a big fan?
