Fearless Giant Rats of Indonesia

Deep in the jungles of Indonesia is a place so remote, so untouched by mankind that it's known as the "Lost World." In 2006, the first scientific expedition to reach this pristine land discovered a wealth of new species that had never been seen by human eyes.

The latest expedition, however, turned up something even more unexpected--GIANT RATS. According to this brief article, the rats that inhabit Indonesia's lost world are 5 TIMES LARGER than city rats and unafraid of humans. One apparently took a liking to the scientists and would show up in their camp from time to time.

In other enormous rodent news, it seems that another variety of giant "rats" may be invading New Jersey. Click here for more.

UPDATE: The giant rat of Indonesia below!

Eek! That'll give me nightmares. Even more so than SHC. I love this blog. It has the strangest, most random pieces of information ever.

please, i am begging you, save the wolves! In alaska, the government wants hunters to be able to shoot wolves from airplanes until their to exausted to move, land the plane and the shoot the injured animal. as well as this being completely unethical, this is scientifically bogyus! The hunters say the wolves provide competition for big game prey! honestly, go to a grocery store, get help, or examine the facts! the injured aniomal is completely overwelmed, overpowered and defenceless at a huge metal structure far off the ground, the agony must be unbelievable! ananka, i know that all people have different opinions but i am begging you, please post this!

GW007: It sounds like a very good cause. Do you have a URL we can look at --or a place we can write into?

thanks for posting ananka!
For a well rounded, fairly unemotional approach on why aerial hunting is not a solution go to:
www.alpha-gruppen.com/artikler/aerial_hunting.htm
for what you can do go to:
http://www.defenders.org/programs_and_policy/wildlife_coservation/imperiled_species/wolves/wolf_recovery_efforts/alaska_wolves/
you can also write to your congress man i don't know if this will help but, it's worth a try, also, spread the word, if youy ave a blog, maybe do an article, just please , lets stop this awful form of "hunting"!

That thing about the wolves in Alaska is terrible!
But, those wolves DO live a better life than animals (cows, chickens, sheep) that are raised completely in a meat farm that raises htem in packed cages and then kills them all off before they've had a life. (major run-on) Or the poor weasels and minks who have their skin peeled/shaved off alive.
Just to leave you with joyous thoughts...

Imagine being chased by one or finding one at home. A very disturbing thought. I wouldn't mind it too much it it was minus the teeth. I'd actually like to pet it and prehaps cuddle it.( I know I sound crazy now!)Either way, it's an amazing discovery.
