This Prank May Not Be Perfect, But It's Pretty Darn Close

(Sorry for the brief ad at the beginning.)

Improv Everywhere strikes again. This time, the pranksters hired an actor who bears a strong resemblance to a seventeenth century Spanish king to stand in front of the ruler's portrait at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art. He happily signed autographs, answered questions, and posed for photos.

It's an amazing prank, but it doesn't quite meet all three of my "perfect prank" criteria, since hiring an actor isn't free. (Last time I checked, anyway.)

I've never yet figured out why security guards have no sense of humor about harmless things like this.

If anything, this is bringing people into the Met and making their experience more memorable!

HAHA I love when they do this! Another was when they hired a guy with a magnificent beard to pose as Anton Chekov doing a book signing at B&N. A (sad) significant number of people believed him!

Haha. Very funny. This group who does these pranks called Improv Everywhere has tons of pranks on youtube. Some are even funnier than this. I love watching their videos. They're hilarious!!!

That's so funny! I love Improv Everywhere (especially 'I Love Lunch'). I don't think that they had to hire an actor to pretend to be the king, because all their agents do the work for free. But the pictures and costume must have cost money.

Another win prank.. But why not leave him there? The visitors like it XD

Dear Anonymous:
Security guards have to do the "no sense of humor" routine because their clients tend not to have a sense of humor about factors they don't really control.

My favorite security guard is the one who told someone to move their dog -- because the concrete pad RIGHT THERE was a lot cooler than the asphalt the dog was sitting on at the time.

Robert in San Diego, who has given up imitating answering machines when he answers the phone.

Annoying security guard. But, I guess he was just doing his job. Oh well.

But the agant and the 'prince' both did a really good job of staying in character, especially when the security guard came.

I'm going to watch some of the other ones, and see what they're like :P

Except he wasn't, Toodles. The other security guard had no problem with this guy being there, as seen in the comments. It's just that neither the pranksters nor the first security guard really wanted the hassle of checking policy.
