The photo above shows a replica of a blue whale heart. It's so big that a human could slide through its arteries--and so loud that its beats can be heard over two miles away.
Gray Whales pass close by San Diego on their way from Alaskan waters to Baja California's warm lagoons to give birth. Last year, even the day excursion whale watching trip skippers were astounded because they were seeing humpback whales and blue whales in addition to the grays.
I don't even want to think about the sorts of pressure a heart that size needs to deliver blood to all the parts of an animal that big.
At the Ben Franklin museum in Philadelphia there is a heart you can walk thorough (it's a model) I remember it particularly well because I had an asthma attack even though I don't have asthma and had to use an inhlaler. I think I was recovering from some sort of respiratory Illness. :)
