This Week's ARC Giveaway!

Yeah, I know. It's last week's giveaway, too. What can I say? I'm running out of books!

A Darkness Dwellers ARC goes to the first person to correctly answer the following question . . .

If I write Kiki Strike #4, where should it be set? And which of the Irregulars should be the heroine?

Please leave your answer in the comments section of the blog. (In this case, a correct answer is one that amuses me.) Good luck!

Since the Darkness Dwellers is already set in Paris, maybe someplace in Africa? Cairo, perhaps? The Irregulars would probably find the Necroplis interesting. I'm sure there's a lot of activity in a huge city of the dead like that. And around the rest of the city too. Though I've never been there, Cairo seems like a really interesting city (though the situation in Egypt isn't so good right now).

The next book could be about Betty; she's rather mysterious. We do know who her parents are, but not much else. I would love to hear more about her.

Luz, Cuba

Ah, I just realized the next one is about Betty. How stupid of me. I think than Dee Dee and her chemistry. She's interesting too.

But still Cairo.

It should take place in Rome, a city with a vivid history and plenty of gangs and criminals to take care of. As for the heroine, I think it should be Iris because she's the youngest but that also means she has the most potential to be dangerous.

This is a no brainer. The fourth novel would take place in Moscow, Russia because it is the birth place of espionage. Ananka would be the heroine because she is the most intelligent and this mystery/mission would take all her wits and intuition to sort who is an ally and who is an enemy. Getting access to information that is trustworthy would be very important.

It should be set in a prison in Portugal. Deedee has been captured by an evil alchemist who wants to use her talents for evil purposes. Luz is the heroine, figuring out secret messages Deedee sends based on the projects they have collaborated on. Not only do the Irregulars have to rescue Deedee, they must stop the alchemist from finding the secret to... well, we can't tell you that. It's a secret!

I think you should set it in Pokrovia, because you'd be free to do whatever you want with the country!
For the heroine, I would suggest Luz, because we really don't know much about her and she has great potential to be an amazing character.

It should be set at my school (and soon) with Oona as the heroine, because one of my teachers made a sexist comment the other day, and maybe Oona would be able to find out a thing or two about him that I could use to show him not to underestimate "young ladies"... err I mean to make peace with him *smiles sweetly*

I think it should be set somewhere in Egypt and the Irregulars should explore one of the pyramids because apparently there is a mass of underground tunnels and chambers (and perhaps long forgotten secrets?) in the Giza area. As far as I can tell, no one has really explored this place so it sounds perfect for the adventurous Irregulars!
I think that Ananka should lead this one because a really good working knowledge of Egypt would be needed.

I would set in Venice, Italy with DeeDee as the heroine!

Kiki Strike 4 should take place in Alcatraz starring Luz.. Maybe they get locked in the prison or a ghost is haunting it

Obviously, it should circle around Iris. If I'm doing the math correctly (but anything is possible in bookworld, I know) the core Irregulars should be off to college by the time a fourth book comes out. A "passing of the torch" sort of thing. Perhaps Iris could be allowed to join her parents on a trip for once, and discover a South American civilization that's never been documented. Maybe she can start her own band of kick-butt girls while she's there.
But personally, I like Luz...just saying :)

i think it should be set in washington d.c. and be about luz (but also the others) and have something to do with the president and something happens to oona that has to do with a forgery and security stuff. oh gosh my grammar is atrocious. i think there is tunnels under the capitol building and there are some tunnels to the library of congress and from the white house to air force bases and an underground bunker. and iris is in new york and something happens there so they have to split up and awesome stuff.

Kiki Strike #4 should be set on Dark Earth, a mysterious and frightening world beyond the dark side of the moon. Dark Earth is full of gangs, criminals, ghosts, corruption, a VERY secret society, and...competition. Yes, there is more than one group of butt-kicking teenage girls in this universe! This rival group is named the Normals, lead by Lola Throw. Interestingly enough, in the Normals, each girl is a parallel to one in the Irregulars! The only member of the Irregulars without a twin is Iris.

Kiki Strike #4 is full of lies, betrayal, and action. Why doesn't Iris have a corresponding member? What happens when the group is double-crossed? And how will they ever return to earth?

The shangaii tunnels beneath portland, just cause you could have the girls discover them by accidently dropping through an old forgotten trapdoor and onto a group of startled tourists, or long lost partiers, so drunk they think their still in prohibition. Or seattle, and do something with the history of seattle and the fact that seattle almost crahed when they allowed women to vote, and they discover a historical society of angry women wanting to vote who were the real reason why the city burnt down. And have it be about dee dee, cause shes my other favorite, and she doesnt have a story yet.

Moscow, Russia! I would say that Luz would be the Heroine. Since there is so much beautiful architecture, that took a long time to build, and since Luz is always buidling things, Moscow would be the ideal place. Plus, it is very big and bustling, and you never know who you can trust........ Also, judging my what I've read in Kiki Strike, and the races (skin, appearance) I would make the guess that Pokrovia is somewhere near Russia, so Kiki Strike could be over there, perhaps following her mother's ring. (Unless she does in Darkness Dwellers.)

It would be an amazing place anyway, since there happens to be a VERY large library with some archives there, I believe.

Since the Irregulars would start heading off to college, Oxford university would be exciting! With it's rich history, there are so many different mysteries concealed in the walls. Also, it is in Europe, bringing you closer to where Kiki was born along with all the royals and secrets! But Oxford has much history, and secrets! It could be about DeeDee, because Oxford does specialize in science and medicine. And the others could be visiting her? Or she discovers something and calls them all together!

Two possibilities I can think of.

One that focuses on some kind of deep-sea 'monster' or other cryptid, in the same way that The Empress's Tomb touched on ghosts. This could be somewhere in the US--perhaps Monterey, CA. It's right next to the Marianas Trench, which is the perfect hiding place for a kraken or giant squid or something else mysterious. (And Monterey is fairly awesome in its own right--if you haven't seen the aquarium, do. It's got the most amazing kelp forest; I'm not sure if it's still the only aquarium to have one, but it was the first, and they pump the water right in from the bay. The aquarium is *literally* on the bay--a section of it actually hangs out over the water. And we were the first to keep a great white shark without it freaking out and bashing itself against the wall--except they had to release it because it started eating the other fish in the Deep Sea tank.) It would make sense to have Ananka as the main focus for this sort of story.

Alternately, you could set book 4 in eastern Europe somewhere. Drop in on Pokrovia, but also get into some of the espionage and Cold War history there. I love a good spy story, and adding the Irregulars to the mix...that would be fantastic. Kiki could be the focus since she's pretty much already a teenage superspy, but you could just as easily focus on Betty (cloak & dagger master of disguise!) or Luz (nifty spy gadgets! or old forgotten technology that's still lying around hidden in a bunker somewhere--now that I think about it, that's the coolest of the three).

This last isn't really a full idea, but--out of all the Irregulars, Iris seems to need a chance to shine. Thus far she's kind of just been tagging along and bailing them out when they get into trouble.

It should be set and Pokrovia, and plot twist: above land Pokrovia turns out to be only the tip of the iceberg. There are gigantic tunnels very deep beneath Pokrovia's surface that span out all over Europe, built back during the Cold War for espionage purposes, but forgotten about and abandoned because of the deadly secrets the tunnels hold...Kiki is at Pokrovia for the summer with DeeDee, whose parents let her tag along. They accidentally stumble upon the tunnels and Verushka wants to abandon them, uncharacteristically- the tunnels are intertwined with a dark secret from Kiki's past that only she knows about. Kiki and Verushka get in a fight about it, and Kiki and DeeDee run away, alone in a foreign country, to explore the tunnels, only to find that they should've stayed out...(heroine is DeeDee)

I think the next book should take place in Scotland, near Loch Ness. Instead of underground tunnels, the Irregulars could explore underwater caves! Not to mention they could find out about the secret of Nessie. If anyone can do it, the Irregulars can!
I think the main character should be Luz. She hasn't been the main character yet, and her engineering skills could be used to make scuba suits. Also, in the first book it mentions Luz has a boyfriend, which we never heard of again or even met. We should hear from him again. And Kiki said Luz's family left Cuba. I would love to hear that back story.

Another possible site would be Atlantis. Perhaps after college, the Irregulars, including Iris of course, go on a submarine trip, but when their submarine crashes, they're stranded in the lost city of Atlantis and discover that Princess Sidonia, her mother, and trusted bodyguard Sergei Molotov have already made their home their in some obscure scientifically possible way. Sidonia finds the Irregulars there and takes them as prisoners in a dungeon without letting Livia of Sergei know. As it happens, Sidonia is not happy living stuck beneath the sea and wants to escape- but she can't control the vehicle her mother used to get down there. Since she's aware of each of the Irregulars' talents and knows they could help her if they wanted to. So the princess of Pokrovia makes a bargain with the Irregulars: if they help her hijack the high-tech submariney thing Livia got them there in and refrain from turning Sidonia and her family into the police, she will neglect to mention the Irregulars' presence to her guardians and take them along with her aboveground. Should the Irregulars accept this offer? Is Sidonia really on their side?

Location: Upstate New York, as the Irregulars (even Iris) are out of their urban environment in the worst summer camp ever. For extra foreboding and foreshadowing, have the trip to the evil summer camp by rail, along the the tracks that go THROUGH Sing Sing Prison!
Heroine: DeeDee.

Robert in San Diego

I'd like to see a fourth about Luz. She's always fascinated me.
Anyway, the location should be...Turkey. Istanbul is a fascinating city with a lot of rich history and ghost stories, and if I'm correct in saying so, there's some underground stuff going on there as well. All the girls would be old enough to travel by that point, yes? I could see quite a bit of interesting writing come from that.

Pokrovia. We know nothing about it so the imagenation can run free. Dee Dee she's amazing.

I'm thinking that Kiki #4 should take place in Peru and have something to do with the Nazca Lines, with Luz as the main focus.

I think you could do evil wonders with that. =)
