I like the old, animated girls better. It gives you an idea of what they look like without showing you an actual person, so you can create your own picture in your head.
I have two of the original Kiki Strike books and I love those covers. These new ones have a totally different sensibility. The cover girls give off a much older vibe. These are interesting, but I do love the quirkiness of the originals. The new ones will probably attract an older reader though, so that's a good thing.
I must say I also really like the originals as well. I think I understand what the new ones are trying to convey but when you look at the original covers you can feel the story. Whenever I smell or page or hold the worn pages it feels so familiar. The actual first thing that attracted me to the book was the cover of the first book. I found it so interesting and the books are! I feel the new covers aren't as identifiable to the characters and story we love and know. However I do like the Darkness Dwellers cover because Betty's photo looks nice. Overall, I think the originals are best.
These covers are kind of cool, but I really can't see Kiki, Oona, or Betty looking anything like this. I do like the animated ones a lot, so I personally would like a cover in the same style as the first two, even if this cover design is published as well. The Kiki on the first one looks a bit like Luna Lovegood. However I can't complain about how Betty looks because you never know with her.
These look really nice! However I do agree that the fact that the new cover will not match the style of my copies of the other books is a bit disappointing. These covers do give of a vibe that the books are in a series, as "Kiki Strike" is larger than the specific book title. I do really like the older style covers, however these new ones would have drawn me to this wonderful book series as well!
These look absolutely gorgeous! If asked to pick which ones I prefer though I'd have to say the original ones as well. They definitely carry the more Irregular vibe. But nevertheless, these look superb! :)
I love these, but I feel an attachment to the others, considering that I practically read the empress tomb cover to cover every day for a year. I like the magazine letters, but the old ones were easier to read. I don't know. I'm reading all three.
I like these a lot, though the cover girls are older... and this will be a combo breaker for the two books I already own (because I'm weird like that).
I love those, totally different then the old ones! Makes it seem older, more mature....and, please don't take offense, but a little bit cheesy. Of course, cheese is good in moderation! :)
The girl on the cover of Darkness Dwellers, she's supposed to be Betty, correct?
They're not bad. The girls, particularly Kiki, look a bit too nice and not at all dangerous. And possibly a bit too old? I do like the city skylines, though.
Wait, does this mean the new one won't have that same matching art style as the old ones? Because I *love* the old ones.
they're the most generic looking book cover for young adult fiction that you could find these days. they're tacky and distract from the books' true essence.
But, saying that Kirsten's cover is "ugly" is just a tad bit rude. (No offense)
I also feel an attachment to the other covers, but, these are very much more eye-catching, and still good too. They are being reprinted, so I can see why they are being changed up a bit.
They are well done but not nearly as unique. I don't think I would have picked these off the shelves if they had been the original covers. A lot of the different, attractive vibe is lost.
While these are well done, I will say that I much, much, prefer the original ones. I can understand how one might feel the need to experiment with a new look but I will say that personally, books with actual pictures of real people are a major turnoff to me, no matter how attractive the person is. I usually end up trying to cover up the picture so as not to look at it. To me, seeing that picture is like seeing the movie before reading the book. The reader sees the characters in her own way, and probably her own age and maturity.
I love both!! When my friend Reccomended this to me a couple years ago, I looked at the old cover and thought that it really didn't look that exciting for a story about a butt kicking superspy, the new ones look more mysterious and adventurous kind of. But as long as the third book is awesome, I don't think the cover will matter to me!!
I think it would be cool if you did the same cover but with the old animation of the characters where the pictures are now (inside the magnifying glass).
Let's remember guys, Ms. Miller didn't choose the covers. I think it's awful that the publisher chooses the covers. If I become an author, I want to choose my covers. :P
Changing covers mid-series irritates me. It often causes me to hold off on buying books or to not buy them at all. I look at mis-matched books on my shelf, and it makes me sad.
I adore the original covers. I really dislike these. They don't even look MG anymore. Illustration is so much more attractive than some boring photographs.
I hate that publishers have the ability to hurt author sales by taking wonderful covers and trading them in for something like this.
Aine: I understand your disappointment. But it wasn't just a casual decision. They couldn't get the same artist to do another cover. (She's very famous now.) So they had to go with something else! That's pretty much the whole story. Not much any of us (including me) could do about it!

OMG I love these new covers so much!

I love the original covers and can't wait to get my hands on the new one!

The old covers are much, much better.

Eeeee! Looks like we're going to see more of Betty? I love her--I'm excited.

These covers are great! I also love the original covers too! The covers definitely fit the book.

Oh my gosh! I love these. I hope i'll have the self control not to buy the first 2 books again!
I love them! But I think I like the original cover better, which creates a bit of mystery.
But, these new ones will definitely attract attention on the shelves!
The girls on the cover just look a little bit too old though, since the Irregulars are only 12 in the book.
But watch, I'm probably going to go out and buy them again. XD
It will definitely attract older kids now though, they would probably be in the teen section in a book store.

AWESOMENESS!
Well....yeah, AWESOME. Still, I remain loyal to the drawings. Sorry to anyone who prefers them, though judging from the comments, there aren't many.
Where can we find Kirkus's review? And I like the old covers, better, though these look OK too.

Noooooooooooo! I loved to old covers... :(
But now the third one won't match the older editions!
Got my arc the day after you mailed it, btw. Love the book, ugly cover and all : )

Why does the last cover say kikistrike.com if you don't post there anymore?
I like the old ones way better.
I agree woth Conuly... the third one not matching the first two sucks.
When I read Kiki Strike in middle school, I thought the cover looked lame. Plus, the inside cover summary was confusing.
I felt differently after staying up all night to finish it :)
Moral of the story, don't judge a book by its cover :)
The new ones look more intense. I like them, too. And I can't wait till next year when they come out!
I like these a lot, though the cover girls are older... and this will be a combo breaker for the two books I already own (because I'm weird like that).

I like the old covers. I was looking forward to seeing Betty on the cover of book three in the old style. No offense, but the new covers look corny.
Don't worry, I still love ya, Kirsten! (Gosh, I'm such a weirdo.)
to be honest, i hate them :(

These are lovely!!!!!!!!! Although I still love the original covers which I have....signed.
*wants the new shiny*
