Happy Halloween!

Any Halloween stories you'd like to share?

Here's one. It's a bright, sunny day here in Brooklyn. I'm sitting on my couch in the living room, writing this post. I can hear someone upstairs. S/he's walking around in my bedroom. The only problem? I'm alone in the house. No. I'm not joking.

you know what? i love that picture.
i dont really have any halloween stories, but i think i recently freaked my friend out a little by standing in a misty room with a strobe light and noodley things that looked like giant pieces of spaghetti (not swimming noodles though) hanging from the ceiling and holding a large fake cleaver with fake blood up and cackling insanely (my insane laugh can be quite good at times) while coming at her slowly. but she got used to it. oh and i also carried it around muttering "big knife big knife" and smiling when i was holding it. . . .does that count? it was quite funny to me. and her brother was not able to scare me. it was funny! hehe

so wait . . . . what is that a picture of? where is it? and what does it say on its lip? theres pink letters, but i cant quite make them out. did you take any pictures of your neighbors houses? carve unusual pumpkins? have an unusual costume? oh, you know whatd be interesting? if a group of girls came up to your door dressed as the irregulars and didnt even know who you were. would you tell them? ooh, that would be. .. . . .i dunno, but if you told them who you were i bet it would make their day. (night?)

ooh mygod. that is scary! do you think your house is haunted? me and my friend think the playroom in hers is haunted, in addition to one for rent up the street from her house. also, my other friend has a potentially haunted guest room-right across from hers. and shes the only one who sleeps on that floor of her house, so shes alone up there every night in the dark.
so. youve been hearing footsteps when youre home alone, huh?

My friend just recently told me a story:
She and her family were in Mexico at some restaurant, I believe. And my friend was served food by this lady - but no one else could see that lady! My friend talked to her and everything but no one else saw or heard the lady. So creepy. My other friends and I joke that this friend can also control the sun because whenever the sun hides behind the clouds and she does a 'sun dance' the sun comes back out (it's scary). Love the picture!

Not a really cool story, but as I'm more than a bit too old for trick or treating, I sent to an evening house concert with reverse trick or treating. We brought in non-perishable food donations for the local food bank. We also had some of our favorite local musicians playing songs about vampires, zombies, horrid things out of H.P. Lovecraft stories, and serial killers. I hang with some morbid people.

That was this afternoon and evening. This morning, my bicycling club did a little tour of some of the older cemeteries here in San Diego. The spooky ones are the old Campo Santo in Old Town where some of the graves ended up underneath the pavement of San Diego Avenue back around 1900 or so, and weren't found again until the 1990's, and Pioneer Park, where all the headstones were taken away so the area could be made into a park (the original plan was housing developments, all of this was WAY before Poltergeist came out), then some (like, maybe 1/30th) of the headstones in the best shape were put back, but all in one sweeping arc of stones in the corner, not where their original graves were.

Not a cemetery, but we did go to the supposedly haunted Whaley House near El Campo Santo.

We didn't go to Mt. Hope -- which features a sign giving a phone number to call to report disturbances. The kicker here is the number is neither 911 nor standard non-emergency police dispatch phone number. Also, the sign is on the front gate, facing inside the cemetery. Yeah, like the people buried in the Elks/Woodsmen of the World/other fraternal orders section of Mt. Hope are going to shamble like zombies to the payphone to call and complain when the interred in the Grand Army of the Republic section (Union Army Civil War veterans) throw a loud party.

We did ride over to Sherman Heights to view the family altars. Also, a lot of us were wearing costumes. It's tough to design a costume you can wear on a 20 mile bike ride. I have a lot of sympathy for Betty Bent.

I went on a bike ride to some of San Diego's cemeteries: The Campo Santo in Old Town, where some of the graves are now under the street, and Pioneer Park (where all the gravestones were moved away and dumped in a ravine so the city could make a park, and then some were moved back and shoved into one corner of that park about four decades later). Some of us were wearing costumes. If you've ever ridden twenty miles in a costume, you'll have more respect for Betty Bent.

In the afternoon, I did some reverse trick-or-treating at a house party, where we brought non-perishable items to donate to the local food bank. We also listened to live music about vampires, zombies, and serial killers. I have morbid friends....

Last night we were trick-or-treating at the house where we lived 12 years ago when our first daughter, Eleanor, was born in July. They had a baby who was a few months old... who was a girl... who was born in July... (you see where this is going?)... and who's MIDDLE name was... Eleanor. spooky.

I didn't really end up doing anything exciting, althoughat my friends party the night before we used her ouija board and tarot cards. It was really fun. Then on Halloween, being the lame person I am, watched Mythbusters and A Haunting betweeen answering the door.

hmmmm.....my house just might be haunted. I've heard claps, and sometimes the door opens without anyone in the room.

The creepy part is that I just read about the mouth of truth in The Eternal Ones right before I looked at this post

I just wanted say I LOOVVVEEE Kiki Strike and The Eternal Ones and Ananka's Diary. You probably won't read this, but you are an amazing author.

I heard of Kiki Strike from amber StarGem over her blog, and I glanced at your blog once.

I've been thinking about The Eternal Ones for over a week now, and it's not escaping from my mind. How many times can I say it's an AWESOME book?

Anyway, I can't wait for the sequel to that book (EEEEEEEEEEKKKK!) and Kiki Strike #3.

It's really awesome how you have a blog and you're an author. Usually people can't really communicate with authors and ask them questions. :)

As for a Halloween story? I don't really have one. I think one of the rooms in my house is haunted though (or something) because the door closes by itself a few minutes after we open it...

soo. . . .do you know when the darkness dwellers will come out? all i know is that it'll be next year. any idea of a month? any word on the cover? the empress's tomb sort of had a cliffhanger ending, and counting that, i currently have to deal with at least 3 cliffhangers. (no, make that 5. maybe more.) and either of the other two alone was single-handedly enough to drive me temporarily insane. . . .you know, when you finish a book and you want to scream because you have to know whats gonna happen next or you'll die or your head will explode or something. luckily, it's temporary, only lasts about 2 days. or you turn the page, and go "what the heck where did the rest of the story go?!?!!?! there's supposed to be more! where did the ending go?!?!?!!?". both of those have happened to me. literally. (but i didn't scream. well, not out loud, at least. i was screaming on the inside.) but yeah. . . .cliffhangers can make someone practically rabid if they love the books enough. but really, will you post about it as soon as possible when you know? are you allowed to post it that soon? you'll tell us, right?
right?

you said next year for the darkness dwellers-2011. early 2011? maybe early january-as in, the first week or so of the new year? it would be very nice. but do authors have control over how fast a book is published? doesn't seem like it. i guess it depends on the popularity of the books and how fast it's written, huh? or, at least, that has something to do with it. but that's just a guess.
