I Survived a Tornado!

That's right. I don't care what the National Weather Service says. (They haven't reached any conclusions yet.) I am 100% positive that a tornado passed over or near my house last night!

I grew up in North Carolina, where the storms can be extremely fierce. (And, after Florida, NC leads the nation in lightening-related deaths.) But I have NEVER seen anything like the storm that hit New York City last night. The wind and hail were battering my building with such force that I was certain my skylights would be destroyed.

See some pictures on the New York Times website.

There were tornadoes around where I live a few times--and there are almost never tornadoes!

Glad you're safe!

Yikes I went to Woodward a few years ago and it's in Amish country pa we had a tornado warning and it was looting and hailing. And me and my friends being idiots just had to run all the way to cafeteria which was under ground. By the time we got there the warning was over, it was still scary but exciting and made a great story!

Ha ha, I believe you Kirsten. There aren't any tornadoes here(but I kinda miss the excitement of the sirens going off, and having the warning every first Monday at 11:00.), but the other day there was this storm that came out of nowhere and it started raining and hailing, then stopped in, like, 5 minutes.

The word I heard on the radio: NOAA (the weather bureau's in that agency) wanted to call the NYC storm system a micoburst, but it was too big. they're calling it a macroburst.

Oh my squee I heard about it!! Gj Anaka!! XD

It wasn't so bad down here in NJ, though we experience some bad power outage and some crazy thunderstorms ._.' So I didn't really expect NY to be that bad D: But ouch it's worse than I thought...

WOOOOOOAH!!! Yikes! Is it that big grey cloud passing by in the video?
How interesting, yet scary. Ever since I learnt about tornadoes in grade 2, I've been imagining what it would be like to see one. I'm just so interested in them. How was it Kirsten?! :) hehehe not that it wouldn't be a chilling experience.

oh im so sorry kirsten. u want a name? my name is tris. and i dont annonymous is going to kill anyone.

Anonymous Tris: Great. Now I can take your comment seriously. I promise not to write about living through natural disasters. Unless I feel like it. Good luck with the earthquakes.

*shiver* Makes me nostalgic for the quakes back home.

@ Annonymous Be Tris: I've been through six, and Kirsten wasn't bragging. Disasters that you live through are pretty cool in hindsight. That was just mean. And out of interest, if you aren't a "little kid or tween" then what are you? And what does "i dont annonymus is going to kill anyone" mean?

what does happening a tween have to do with anything? and i dont feel the need to tell u my age because u could be some sort or freaky stalker. so whatever and leave me alone i have ever right to comment the way i like and put a "THINK" between the "dont and anonoymous" im sorry i didnt realize i was writting and essay and need to correct all of my mistakes now if u dont mind leave me alone

1. Of course you have a right to use whatever grammar you want, but other people might not understand you.

2. You said Kirsten was, and I quote, "gloating" (she wasn't) "to little kids and tweens", which sounds as though you don't consider yourself either. I apologise if I misunderstood; that's just what it sounded like to me.

3. I'm not a stalker and I don't *think* I'm freaky, although my brothers think otherwise. I'm 4'10" and not very dangerous. Kirsten can vouch for this, she saw me at the Decatur Book Festival.

4. I didn't ask how old you were, just who you thought you were to be so rude.

5. I apologise if I came across sounding rude; I was upset that you were being rude to Kirsten. And I'd be very happy to leave you alone. Bye.
