First Day of School?

Today marks the first day of school for many kids here in New York (and the rest of the US). So . . . how's it going so far? Send us your stories whether they're triumphs or tragedies!

I've already been in school for a month, so I'm really jealous you guys just started. School started for me August 10th, but at least we get out for summer at the end of May.

In england, school started on the 3rd...
its pretty awful this year, you really have to work, because we have big exams coming up...
plus all the new year 7's have got shorter, and they just stand there gaping at everything...it's highly infuriating.

Well, so far so good. This is actually my third week of school and I'm a freshie!!!

Anyway, I'm homeschooled and I like it better that way. My work is not harder than I thought that it would be but there is defiantly a LOT more work than I thought!!!

It's only the third week and I'm already writing my second three-page-long report.
I love writing, but it is still VERY time consuming!

I actually started on Labor Day, 'cause I'm homeschooled and my busy summer work schedule ended Saturday. I'm hoping it'll be a good year, since I'm a senior and I need to keep my GPA up. I'm not so sure how I'll do in Calc and Advanced Bio, though. Only one word to say about those two: ick. At least I have a fun elective--creative writing.

We have a new teacher, but his name is tough to say. It is the first time my classmates and I have a teacher that is not a woman...

I've already had three weeks of school, and they've been incredibly boring. Today I got in trouble for helping out a friend, which shows that evil teachers exist in real life.
I have a story from last year, since not much has happened this year. It's not a triumph or a trajedy, but I guess it's a "WHAT THE HECK?!" kinda story:

One day in arabic class, Me, my friend (FN), the elephant-eared guy, and The Idiot were minding our own business. Then, all of a sudden the elephant-eared guy picked up a pencil and tried to kill The Idiot with it. The Idiot's life was in mortal danger, and was trying his best to fend off the Elephant-eared guy's attacks. all of a sudden, the elephant-eared guy gave up, and instead hugged The Idiot, and started saying "Sorry mommy"

after that, The Idiot said, "Eeew i smell like him now!!!"

yeah, that's it.

(BTW: this is insanewriter, i also used to be known as foofoo)

:( AAAUUUUUGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!i can't stand school! i think it is just a waste of my time. it isn't as bad as public or private though im homeschooled but we have to work on Columbus Days 'cause my mom said columbus was a *#$@%#&. you know he turned the native americans into slaves and rode on their backs?!

this is my second day of high school. it's funny, people tell you "middle school's going to be incredibly hard for you" and it's not. Then they say "High school's even harder" and its not. i guess it depends on people's views. The 7th graders have gotten extremely short. I distinctly remember not being that short and stupid. It's highly annoying

I don't care how cold my school is, I've been wearing tank tops since it started. I'm holding onto summer with everything I've got!!

Hmm... Not much has happened for me. Ran for Student council, Lost... what else? ooh I've read ten books already! Well thats it.

I'm a freshman as of today! My friends in England started about a week or so ago. We have to get up at 5:45 every mornig though school doesnt start till about 7.40 so we all just wander. Our school is also a madhouse of tiny corriders. My GOD! Lunch you can eat anywere! I was nearly run over at least five times! I feel so short! (Speaking of short the sixth graders are getting way shorter which is kind of creepy because I was five two then...) Our orchestra might go to Boston for three days in the spring too! Though I already have a report for LA! Unfortanitly its not a short story... which I just finished! YAHNESS!

School started yesterday for me. It actually wasn't too bad, except for the bus ride, which I will not go into. My school got redone over the summer, so I'm as lost as the sixth graders. (I'm a seventh grader.) And everyone's talking about short younger kids... my problem is that the sixth graders are TOO TALL! I always thought that being in seventh grade meant people looked up to me. More like down at...

My school started 3 weeks ago. So far, all my teachers are nice except my core teacher, who is an evil demon in disguise. Olivia and Agent Meep: I'M a 7th grader, and I'm not stupid!(though I am pretty short)

now i know why the 8th graders hated us so much. 7ers are so annoying! anyway, i have been obsessed with michael jackson, even before he died. so i come to school in this michael jackson-ish costume. then, during a dance contest (yay) and i started moonwalking, spinning, etc. it looked weird and i shied down but i promise i'm not going to do that again, and won't be too shy anymore. then, my friend got so excited that i was wearing eyeliner. then, somehow, the discussion swayed over to eyeballs, and my other friend told us a story about his old school, and how once, this kid decided to put his head down after an exam and his pencil poked his eyeball and a bunch of black stuff was spewing out.

THE END

this is my third week!Lucky new york kids!!! we also get out on the last friday of may, so......

My fisrt day was yesterday. The sevies think that they can sit in the back of the bus even though we had to sit in the back when we were sevies. It was pretty funny, because I went to go sit in my seat and two sevies were sitting in it. Vicki and Katie had been trying to get them to go back to the front. I walked up and said "Guys, I'll be your best friend if you go away." and they left! I've already tripped over my own feet five million times and blushed too much. Isn't school great?

you should totally do an article on cool supplies for school, it would be so helpful Ananka, oh and im a freshman as of today in a fashion school in manhattan.

school started for me on August i8th :(
please offer me irregular advice on how to deal with a bully!!!
Everyday, for the past nine days, i have had gum on my lock, not my locker, my lock. Going to an authority isn't really an option because the bully has people everywhere (mom on school board, etc.) i am tired of cleaning it up, please tell me what to do my comrades... give me creative solutions, a laugh, anything.
much appreciated,

i live in the us and just started eighth grade which is my first year of high school, it's hard and long. I have to get up an hour earlier and only have 4 classes a day each of which is 90 minutes. The first day a bunch of seniors ran down our hall in the middle of class yelling "FRESHMAN! FRESHMAN!

at least your school has air conditioning...mine doesn't and i about have a heat stroke every day. the sevies this year really look like 2nd graders, they also think they're so special because they're in middle school, it drives me crazy!

you would've thought that high school would fly by, NOT. its horrible D:

I've already been in school for a few weeks, so I'm jealous of anyone who just started. It's funny, because - as some people already said - all of the sevvies are getting shorter! I LITERALLY have to watch out to keep from tripping over them, especially at hallway intersections! :D I think I was that tall in third grade... And all the short sevvies on back to school night wore huge skater shoes and hats. Ha, some looked like a little puppy that was growing up with its over sized paws! It's pretty funny.

Yesterday was my first day of high school! Surprisingly, it went quite well. My English teacher is awesome and some random guy adopted me as a freshman pet, which is... good, I guess.

Still, just because I'm in high school now doesn't mean I'm not still dangerous. *evil grin*

I still have not started, which I would call a tragedy. :)

@ Delaney
In England, Year 7's are what I think you call 6th graders?
They're aged 11-12 years.
7th graders, are what we call year 8's, they're about 12-13... :)

sad girl said...

ahem. I'm a 7th grader and im reading at a college level and "7th graders are highly annoying" my foot! all these stereotypes are very exasperating and offending.>:( i am average height too! how did you feel about these stereotypes? hmph.

Can someone from Britain tell me how their school system works? I just want to know cause it's different from ours here in the US.
I started eighth grade last week, and Lioness, I will not make fun of the seventh graders because I remember what it was like (and already 7th grade is so much better than 8th grade.) However, let me tell you that in 8th grade you want to be so much cooler than the 7th graders, so you act like you know so much more than them. So that's why everyone makes fun of them (at least if your middle school starts in 7th grade.)
Today, my friends told me that in Science we would watch the movie/musical Rent. so when my other friend and I were in class, she said "aren't we watching Rent or something?" then she looked at me. "Isn't that what they said?" and my teacher looked at us like what on earth are you talking about? It was kind of embarrassing.

Marie said...

I started on the 19th.Eeech.I am in a charter school and there are only 11 people in my class, which is depressing since all the other calsses are full.

Olivia said...

@ Clare.

please explain the american one for me!

English schools are:

aged 4 and a half, you start 'reception' in the Infant section of primary school, also known as Key Stage 1.

then year 1, year 2.

At year 3, you start the Junior part of Primary school, also known as Key stage 2.

In most parts of Britain (there are counties with exceptions, and also Scotland) After year 6, (aged 10-11) you leave, and Start Secondary school, (Key stage 3.)
After year 9, (aged about 13-14)
you start Key Stage 4, aka Year 10.
These are Exam years, what we call GCSE's.
(in the last year of every key stage you take an exam called SATS, which is just a test for the government to see how effectively you are being taught.
They were recently abolished for year 9's.
In Year 12, (aka lower 6th or Key Stage 5) you start 2 years commonly known as '6th form'.
Their is a choice to leave once you have finished your GCSE's, or come out of Year 11, but this is in the process of being abolished!
At the end of Y13, (aged 17-18) (aka upper 6th)
you can leave school and choose to have a gap year, or apply for university or college. (some colleges start from Y12)
It does sound complicated, sorry!
Please explain the american system, I've always wanted to know...

Agent_Meep: EVERYONE remembers not being that short and stupid, the truth is, regretfully, we all were. Probably, the only reason high school isn't hard for you is because you payed attention and actually learned. Others should follow your example.

I live in D.C. and school started 3 weeks ago for me. On my first day of school I got lost! But it is a new building and it's HUGE! Anyways,on my way to Spanish class, I stopped t help a friend get to a class, by then the grup I was with had gone.I went to one floor then another, I had no idea where I was. Finally I spotted a techer and sked her directions. Now weeks later I know the building and have no idea how I got lost.

Hmmm...
Well I'm in Austraaaaaalia :):)
So school started way back in February! But I think we have the same problems...the year 7's aren't so bad but the year 8's! :o, my goodness they're so short! And so annoying! With high pitched voices >.<

But yeah...since the beginning of..yeah, well ever since we stared school, our whole school basically hates US. The year nines. It's like all the teachers are out to get us or something. Next year the teachers will hate year tens :S

Our term finishes in 2 weeks! Yay, can't wait for holidays!

I'll be thinking of you all slaving away at school, when I'm dancing around on the beach! (Erm, if it's warm enough then, haha :)

@ Olivia
In the U.S. we start school @ age three- and from three to 5 we are in 'preschool'. Then when we're 5-6 we are in kindergarden. Then usually kids go to elementary school, where they stay for 5 years (grades 1-5 and sometimes 6 or kindergarden) then when we're eleven we go to Middle School were we stay until we're in 8th grade (fourteen). then we go to highschool until 12th grade when we're 17.

Sorry. that's kind of a mess. hope it helps!

Thx for not letting me do any of those things!

The first day of school went ok for me. After school I had to walk in the heat for an hour (oh, and It was sunny out too!) It was awful.

Cassie, you're sooo lucky! I wish I was homeschooled! Public school sucks. Everybody seems intent on making each other miserable.

Charm, what a WEIRD coincidence. This year, I have a new teacher, who is male, AND his name is hard to pronounce. It's Kon-itch-nee. Konec-oh I can't spell it.

So I guess it's not just my school where the people are getting shorter. AND stupider.

Anonymous #2 take a can of spray oil (the kind you use to grease a cookie sheet)to school and every day before you leave drench your lock in the stuff. The gum probably won't stick. Also, you can use Crisco or any other kind of vegetable shortening. It's easy to get off too!

Bully advice: Sock him.

Olivia: first you have kindergarten; ages four-five
then 1st grade ages-six years
then second ages-seven years old
then third grade- ages eight years
then fourth grade-ages nine years
then fifth grade-ages-ten years
then you leave and go to middle school= sixth grade ages -ten-eleven
then two school years of junior high twelve,to thirteen years.
then you go to high school for four years ages= 14-15-16-17. now you know. im not writng about it anymore. it makes me sick on my stomach :(
