The Vertical Metropolis

What if we lived in a world where dry land was scarce? Where would we build our homes and cities? These are the questions artist Jesse van Dijk set out to answer with his Project Indigo. He imagined a "vertical city" inside the crater of a dormant volcano. The super rich live at the top of the city where flat ground and sunlight are plentiful, while the poorest members of society live at the bottom.

Check out the rest of the city here.

Also the first part to be flooded in case of a tsunami!

That's really cool. But hat if, by some freak natural disaster, we were forced to live that way?? D:
Yet another reason to stop global warming.

I agree with LilTomboyBlue. I'd live on a boat near one of those little surface suburbs..

that is soooo cool!!

I saw something like this on the Discovery Channel! There was this man who designed the worlds largest tower (if they were to create it) and it included malls, stores, doctors, apartments and everything else in that tower. The residents would never have to leave the tower. I think it was like a mile high.

Unrelated but interesting-
As an alternate house like the tower designers have designed a boat that is a mile long with everything in it as well!

They have also beginning to think about constructing a bridge from Spain to Morocco. It would be the longest bridge built!

20th anniversary of Thriller? Cool. Wow. It's my parents' 20th wedding anniversary soon. Neat.

The world freaks me.

"....cause this is thriller, thriller night...."

I'd probabyly live in an mipod. With lots of books, internet and television. Oh, food of course."

That's not exactly fair to the poor people. Is there any way for them to improve their lives in this society? They should put mirrors or sun-collectors-and-beamers so that there's light on the bottom too.
But it looks so cool.

Too bad you can't get a beach with sunlight.
But how do the people on top get there in the first place? In fact, how did people get to that little hole in the first place without braking their necks?? The artist said the time period was around the 17th century....
How do you move around the vertical city?

Contrary to what just about everyone else here is saying, I think it would be fun to live at the bottom. I have a penchant for caves and other dark places.

Typo! It was the 25th anniversary, not 20th. My bad, I'm sorry... :(
