If so, stop by the fabulous Books of Wonder store (18 W. 18th St.) tomorrow at noon. I will be there, participating in the Great Teen Novels event! Check out the other authors who will be there as well!
too bad i live on the west coast. nyeh! but there is a local sea monster here, so that kinda makes up for it :) they call him bobo cuz his other name is too long <3 bobo
> too bad i live on the west coast. Well. That's not all that bad! Still, if you finally decided to attend to this event, you would not have to apply for a visa at reckless speed, unlike me =)
P.S. I've also got something to cover up for it. There is spoken to be a secret subway (the so-called Metro-2) station under our university. Thus, Moscow seems to have its own Shadow city! According to what I've found on the internet, one of the differences to the fictional(?) N.Y.C. Shadow city is that Moscow's secret underground infrastructure was built for governmental purpose and, thus, is much better documented (albeit the majority of documentation remains classified, and only few bits of info get distributed, sometimes even illegally).
Yeah for secret subways! And out of service underground utilities are always fun. New York City's weirdest (that I know of) are the pneumatic tubes between post office locations. Back before I was born, mail distribution and retrieval from sorting centers and post offices was carried out by stuffing letters and small parcels into cylinders, and shooting them with compressed air along underground tunnels to their destination.
The job title for the mail handlers who did the launching? "Rocketeers." This is only one of the cool things you can learn about when hanging with stamp collectors.
The Congressional Subway in Washington, DC, started running in 1909. It has three lines running between Senate and House of Representatives office buildings and the US Capitol Building. This isn't part of the DC Metro, which opened in 1976, has more than a hundred miles of track, and more than 80 stations. And there's probably some secret bomb-shelter/getaway stuff between the White House and someplace else, but I have no genuine knowledge about that.
I hope someone who can make this event does a book event review. Thanks in advance!
