I like the idea of rings with a function. Unfortunately these can get you in real trouble nowadays. Use a "poison ring" with a secret compartment to carry your vitamin or medicine tablets? Off to the disciplinarian's office. Would be handy for carrying a tiny memo about that month,s omputer password. A sliderule ring would be neat; but if you could read it, it might get confiscated before a math test.
Cool diamond story: When Harry Winston, the jewelery store, sent the Hope Diamond to the Smithsonian, they sent it by mail. The Post Office Department, noticing they had a rock with a Registered Mail declared value in the million dollar range, put riflemen aboard the Railway post office car going from New York to Washington DC that day.
Yeah, I wrote "Post Office Department." And "Railway post office." It was that long ago. Now I feel old.
Robert in San Diego, knows people who'd used V-mail back in the day, and collect it now.

Found it! The wrapper in which the Hope Diamond was mailed from NYC to the Smithsonian Institution.
Robert in San Diego, not a stamp collector, but I know some.
