Invasions!

Thank you all for the stories about the giant squid currently invading California waters! The key words in this tale are: enormous, carnivorous, ink-blowing, mean, and delicious.

But allow me to tell you about another invasion. The other day, while sitting in my living room, I spotted a bug just like the one shown above. I picked it up and tossed it out the window. (Because I love all the little creatures.) Good thing I didn't squash it. Apparently, it was a stink bug--a particularly foul class of beasties which emit a terrible odor when stomped. And the one in my apartment may not have been alone! My neighborhood in Brooklyn is being invaded by stink bugs! The horror!

And to top it all off, there's a coyote loose in Central Park as I write! What is this world coming to? Giant squid, stink bugs, coyotes! AAARGH!

UPDATE! Pictures of the coyote here!

There's a COYOTE loose in Central Park?!?!?!?!?

Man. I know that there was once a black bear loose in Cooperstown (I used to live, like, half an hour away) but nothing like that!

Well, like my grandmother used to say, "When all other life on earth is extinct, there will still be one cockroach crawling around. And then a coyote will run up and eat it".

A coyote in Central Park?!? Weird! Here in WA sometimes schools have lockdowns for cougars, and one was seen a few backyards.

Oooooh good luck with the stink bug invasion. Maybe you can invent something like a Reverse-pied-piper for stink bugs.. hehehehe
Oh that reminds me, I was watching RSPCA: Animal Rescue, a show that plays in Australia, and there was this one case where there were about 600 rats in someone's backyard shed, apparently kept as pets. They were scattered all over the place, unhealthily, some stacked up in cages, and the whole place was full of faeces! It was pretty gross, they had to get rid of them. But it was interesting to see it because I couldn't really imagine so many rats while I was reading about them in Kiki Strike, now I can... o_0 :)

Oops. I meant "sad girl"

Sorry!

LOL kirsten! My geography teacher has her own philosophy with bugs....
once, when we were in class, some girl screamed because there was a spider on the floor. when i was about to stomp on it (because i'm just that kind of bug lover) my teacher waddled as fast as she could to stop me. "wait!" she yelled. "it has a soul!" (because thats the kind of hippie she is) and so she gave me a glowering look and carefully, caressingly, picked the bug up and took it outside. she's so weird.....

charlotte: thanks for the font link! i absolutely LOVE jane austen!!!! sense and senibility & pride and predjudice are some of my most favorite books & movies!!!!! (besides kiki strike, of course!)

kra i but you think i'm a "hippie" because i was BITTEN by a spider and i still SAVED IT'S LIFE!!!!!!!

We have coyotes in our city because it's on Lake Michigan and there's a lot of park land. I usually only see them early in the morning, like when the sun is coming up. They're really only a threat to small children and pets outside alone.

At least you're not being chased by tarantulas! (has happened to me, lol). For those Beatles fans out there--
search john lennon robot in google to find an awesome site where you can chat with the robot of JL!! Love it!

o_0 There's coyotes down in the Ozarks, where I live. There so pretty, but one of them got my friend's dog. They creep me out, because at night you can hear them howling. *shudders*

For the post after next I think we should get to read the first chapter of Kiki Strike #3. We have waited in agony and suspense for this long. Please. Please. Please. And maybe we could do one of those story things where each person comments a sentence. It would be interesting to see what we come up with.

ok reel dancer: Upon consulting with m cousins we have come up w/ the answer: whoever came up w/ competitions was trying t torture small children. irish people don't even have curly hair! think about it: we are told to dance at shows where our shcools get paid (child labor), they make us lock our knees (causes knee damage) they make us tan our legs (causing skin cancer),we are supposed to, quoting my dance teacher, " point our toes and go so high that it hurts", and we're supposed to attach poodle socks to our legs w/ sock glue.... need I continue? and yet, for some unfathomable reason, every weekend hundreds of small children are woken up at three in the morning o go to feises (dance competitions). and enjoy themselves between mental breakdowns. I know, sounds like h- e double tooth picks, right? but we do it. I, however only go to a couple of these wonderful things each year. I can't imagine why i don't want to wear sequin covered carboard, and glue my legs, and pin itchy plastic hair to my scalp more often. :)

MushroomCloud said...

did that help reel dancer? i just reread that and realized how awful i made it sound. it isn't that bad actually. besides the fact that u can't sit in one of the dresses or remove them yourself. feel free to search kelly oster school of irish dance on google to see wonderful pictures of smiling children.

im on the show troupe page. I i am the lucky owner of one of those curly wigs and neon skirts and red sequined dresses! yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, now it's snowing.

The Irregular Girl said...

I dunno about snowing "back east", at least in some places.

I live in NY (Broome) and we hardly got any snow. (BOOOO!)

I think it's just MD and maybe Wash D.C. that's getting the snow.

MushroomCloud said...

yeah no snow in NY that i can c....

Don't bash coyotes, they have it bad enough without...

How about instead of celebrating 1000, celebrate 1001. Just to be funny.

The bugs sound gross! In Seattle, we also had coyotes.
