One of the things that amuses me most is the lack of imagination people display when it comes to extraterrestrials. More often than not, we depict them as the same size and shape as ourselves. But if aliens exist (and my personal vote is: YES THEY DO), it's unlikely they'd be anything like us. (My personal vote: GIANT BENEVOLENT SLUGS.)
Still, it feels strange to find stories in which the aliens aren't quite what we expect. For instance, this afternoon I came across the photo shown above on the Pink Tentacle blog. The caption said it's a mini-UFO that was captured by a bunch of Japanese kids in 1972. (How mini? It was roughly the size of a hat.)
My first reaction was, "yeah right." But hey, who's to say that we weren't visited by beings so diminutive in stature (really short E.T.s)?

IF it was a UFO...THEN WHY DID THEY CAPTURE IT??? That's mean! Just because they're smaller than us, we go around capturing them???

i think that aliens will be so different from anything on earth. They might even havce other sences that we cant even imagion! i want to meet one =]

sounds fairly realistic... who knows though, i did a course on the universe's rough size and... it's so HUGE!!!! i love gymnast20's idea that they have different senses than us... like in madeline le'angles books. Kirsten, thank you for this awesome tidbit of info!

The first thing I thought of when I saw this was the episode of Twilight Zone with the woman whose house gets invaded by miniature aliens.
I think that just looks like some sort of inverted smoke detector. But hey, that's just me.

Can u guys imagine the incredibly low chance that they'll look like any type of earth creature? Chances are they wont even be able to live here (to early life forms oxygen is like acid to their lungs) there is also a good chance that they wont eat us simply b/c were indegestible and that they will havve 5+ appendages

One time when I was on an airplane, I saw a little tiny thing moving around over the clouds. All I could see was a gleam of light floating around. It would be cool if that had been a tiny UFO.
