Oh No, He's Looking Right At You!

Say hello to Oscar. He lives in a Providence, Rhode Island nursing home. In most respects, he's an ordinary cat. Except for one thing . . . Oscar knows when people are about to die.

In the two years since Oscar was adopted by the Steere House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, he has inexplicably appeared at the deathbeds of more than 25 patients. He seems to know--even when the doctors don't--that a person is standing at death's door.

Read more about Oscar in the Boston Globe. But be forewarned: The story is seriously creepy.

Woah. Okay, now that is creepy.

In the ARC you sent me I was reading through, and I had just gotten to chapter eight, when I noticed one sentence was underlined. I hadn't underlined it, and no one else in the house could have, so then...who did? One page 141, someone had underlined in blue ink "Any person who believes in ghosts has at least one good story to share." Just wondering if it was you, the publisher, or what? Maybe a ghost did it. The world may never know. ;-)

my stepmom works at a McMinumins and the restaraunt is right by a haunted house. the story is a little girl, 11, pushed her younger brother,8, down the attic stairs and he died. a couple years after that she died from a disease. now her ghost haunts the house and steals various things.during my dads and step moms wedding, my step mom transformed one of the rooms in the house into the ladies dreesing room. her wedding perfume disared and her mom claimed she saw the little girl at the bottom of the attic stairs.creepy.

Well. i'm a little late posting on this, but our cat has a similar skill. I get sick a lot, my spouse rarely, but regardless, when one of us wakes up sick, we invariably wake up with our cat snuggled close up to our side (whichever of us is sick gets the kitty love). He will stay in bed with us until we feel better; when we wake up and Sid isn't there, we notice that we really are feeling better. Usually if the cat is with us in bed, he's at our feet or at the corner of the bed. Sick is the only time he's right at your side.
