DIY Tuesday

Looking for ways to keep yourself entertained (Jin Ai)? Instructables is a wonderful website where you can find instructions for doing just about anything. (A few of which are guaranteed to help you start building a closer relationship with your local law enforcement officers and/or ER doctors, so use some common sense.)

For your summertime pleasure, I've made a short list my favorite "how to" guides, including how to:

Make creepy cool vinyl wall art.

Construct a device that will open any padlock.

Grow a square watermelon.

Build a cheap secret compartment.

Create cute little fridge magnets.

Construct a "poor man's" lockpick.

Make glow-in-the-dark, edible jello.

Create a pocket plant.

Transform ditzy Barbie into dangerous Wonder Woman.

And my personal favorite, build a Barbie electric chair!

Enjoy!

  1. yay! thanks! I had no idea people grew square (technically cubic xD sorry)
    The padlock thing sounds interesting.
Unfortunately, I spend so much time on odd projects anyway that I doubt my mom will give me time off for them. But thanks again for the list!

  3. Ha. I should tell my friends about the Barbie electric chair. Some song they've been singing goes,

    "I'm a Barbie girl
    in my Barbie world
    life is plastic
    That's fantastic
    you can brush my hair
    and touch me everywhere
    imagination
    it's your creation."

    Or something like that.

  5. The only problem with the poor man's lock pick thing is that I can't figure out how to use it x(
My dad went to MIT; I always him he should have taken the lock picking course!

  6. The padlock video was kinda funny.

I've seen those square watermelons a lot before...I thought you already "mentshunned" them. I think it's just me...

The pocket plant is pretty kawaii.

  8. Ananka: Thanks for the site; I'll talk to my parents.
I've been meaning to make/sell something but couldn't find anything I'd be willing to make the whole summer...I don't even have enough patience to make anything more than twice!

  9. Jin Ai: I don't know. But it seems quite mysterious and intriguing.

OK--I'm really going to put on the thinking hat for you now.

  13. urrm, a question: would it be okay to use an older version of Kiki's character in a story? I mean her name would be differant and her ancestry and all that. (unless it's okay with you KM, that is to use Kiki in a book wioth her name and everything and saiying that she's from Kiki Strike series. and of course saying that Kirsten Miller invented the original Kiki Strike)

But now i come up with a problem. We readers have no idea what will happen to Kiki once she's older : will she marry, be assasinated, rule Pokrovia, become an Art teacher, lose hope. I highly suspect the last two could never happen. So please respond. I would like other blog readers to also respond. I would like your opinions. I will truly value yours, KM.

  15. GLOW IN THE DARK EDIBLE JELLO!?!? OoO That sounds cool!

  16. Become an art teacher? Kiki can't draw; she can't 'draw a convincing stick figure'. Maybe a school for Irregulars or something. It would be totally secret!
