Make Something!

You know who I admire the most? People who can actually MAKE stuff. Unfortunately, I'm not one of them. Don't get me wrong, I'm pretty handy. (I believe every girl should own her own toolbox, drill, and electric saw--if only for self-defense purposes.) But aside from a rather ugly pair of curtains (and a couple of strange books), I don't think I've ever CREATED anything.

That's about to change.

Over the past few days, I've come across several DIY projects that got me thinking. And with Mother's Day just around the corner, maybe it's time to get crafty.

I could transform an old dollhouse into a faerie house. This looks like a pretty cool project, but since I'm not big on faeries (and neither is my mother), I'd be more likely to make a haunted house or abandoned asylum.

I could make a coat rack out of dismembered baby dolls. (Shown above.) This one's pretty awesome. I think I might whip up few of these for my OWN closet.

Homemade pop-up photographs are surprisingly easy and CHEAP to construct. (And if you can find one that will also embarrass your siblings, you can kill two birds with one stone.)

On a less practical note . . . my mother's unlikely to ever wear a Skittles wrapper prom dress (although that would make the best pop-up photo OF ALL TIME) and I doubt I have the skills to make a "growing" calendar, but you have to admire the ingenuity that went into these projects.

I love the skittles dress. Did you see that the person made skittles shoes too? Skittles are my favorite candy ever, but I'm getting braces soon and then can't have them until my braces are off! I'd better stock up on skittles while I'm brace free. :D

But actually, it isn't true that you have never made anything... HELLO, you made the most amazing books I've ever read!!!!

kind of random, but my sis and i were talking, and she told me that next year she gets to disect a human in college, and freaked out since you talked about that earlier on the blog.
she said a lot of her friends have already done it and love it, too. i personally think its disguting!

I have to wonder: did they dismember the doll first, or get the idea first?
Just asking since I've had a very not-nice past with my dolls, and most of them lie headless under stuffed animals, their final resting place.

I wonder if they have the heads mounted like deer in the living room?

I think if I made that baby doll coat hanger, it would put a few of my friends off from visiting my house...

The growing calender looks cool but since I was all in Spanish I had to figure out how they did it myself. Also the Skittles dress was neat but someone at my school wore a duct tape skirt which I thought looked easier to make.

The skittles and baby dolls things are awesome...*in a creepy voice* but who said they had to be dolls?
Very original projects! :D
Have you seen the purses made out of candy wrappers? People are teaching women in poor countries how to make purses out of chip bags to earn money; they're really cool! (basically a bunch of gum wrapper chain-type things sewed together.)

I love the skittles dress, probably because I make clothes out of duct tape! (I've made skirts, shoes, super hero capes, messenger bags, the list goes on and on!)
